FlexEquip provision to MND NSW members 65 years old and over

Does FlexEquip provide equipment to MND NSW members aged 65 years old who have long term equipment needs?

FlexEquip is the equipment service, provided by MND NSW, to assist adults diagnosed with rapidly progressive neurological conditions get equipment to meet short term to medium term needs.

MND NSW has members who progress rapidly with MND and require equipment for short to medium periods. However, there is also a smaller number of MND NSW members who progress very slowly and require equipment for longer periods.

If long term equipment provision is required, FlexEquip can provide the equipment for the short to medium period. However, FlexEquip will request that an application for the equipment is also made to the State government equipment service, EnableNSW, for equipment for long term need.

FlexEquip can provide equipment until it is supplied by EnableNSW but if the application to EnableNSW is declined, another source for long term equipment provision will need to be sourced by the health professional.

People aged 65 years and over, requiring long term equipment, who have applied for and been granted a Home Care Package, or are on a waitlist for a Home Care Package, are not eligible for equipment through EnableNSW.

For people in these situations, funding for long term equipment should be provided from the funds in the Home Care Package and either discussed with the Home Care Provider or funded privately. FlexEquip can still provide equipment for short to medium terms whilst this is being arranged.

We encourage health professionals to have conversations with their clients aged 65 years and over, who require equipment long term, around the implications on provision of equipment though EnableNSW if a Home Care Package is applied for because FlexEquip cannot provide the equipment long term.
